Strollers for Twins

Welcome to Strollers for Twins. Our aim is to provide you with information about all types of strollers for twins so that parents can manage taking their twins where they need to go in safety and comfort, without trying to figure out how to steer two different strollers or deal with folding them up and stowing them into their vehicle.

Twin strollers or strollers for twins are available in a wide variety of colors and styles and are available from a variety of baby and travel gear manufacturers. The first thing you will notice is that there are two distinctly different types of strollers for twins available, and each of these types also come in an variety of styles.

We will have a look at these two basic types of strollers for twins and list their advantages and disadvantages. We will also have a brief look at twin jogging strollers for twins.

Double Strollers (Side By Side)

The most common types of strollers for twins is the double or “side-by-side” stroller. In this type of stroller, both children sit side by side and face forward. These strollers for twins are quite wide, of course, but more or less the same length as a single stroller from front to back.

Advantages Of A Side-By-Side Stroller

  • Both seats can fully recline
  • Both children have the same view
  • A little less bulky and lighter than a tandem stroller
  • Are more stable with the wide footprint

Disadvantages Of A Side-By-Side Stroller

  • It may not fit through some doorways
  • They are a bit harder to manoeuvre in tight spaces such as shopping aisles
  • Won’t accommodate two infant car seats
  • Can aggravate the problem of bickering children
Tandem Twin Strollers

The second type of strollers for twins is referred to as tandem stroller (front to back). The seats are configured in line, one behind the other and are essentially the width of a single stroller, although double the length. Some are also available in what is called “stadium style”, where the back seat is slightly higher than the front.

Advantages Of A Tandem Stroller

  • They will easily fit through all standard doorways
  • They are generally easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces, such as clothing racks or crowded shopping aisles
  • Many models can accommodate two infant car seats, which can be especially helpful in the early months
  • Most of them have cup holders, small storage compartments on top and large storage baskets underneath
  • Some models also have the option of arranging the seats backwards or facing each other
  • Many have separate trays in front of each child which can usually be removed if preferred.

Disadvantages Of A Tandem Stroller

  • They are usually a bit bulkier and heavier than double strollers
  • Usually only the back seat can fully recline
  • A lot of children won’t like sitting in the back seat with it’s obstructed view
  • It’s a bit more difficult to keep your eye on the child in the front seat
Twin Jogging Strollers

If you’re planning on jogging or power walking with your twins, then you should definitely consider a twin jogging stroller. These strollers are a bit stronger and more rugged than the traditional tandem or double strollers – however, they are generally more expensive too. You will also find that they have quite different features as well.

Twin jogging strollers basically available in two types:

  1. A fixed front wheel.
  2. A swivel front wheel (or wheels).

Fixed Front Wheel
This type of stroller offers the extra stability needed for heavy jogging or running over different types of terrain. The larger, fixed front wheel provides straighter tracking and better handling over bumps and potholes. The wheels usually have pneumatic tyres, much like a bicycle or car, making for a more comfortable ride at any speed. Some models now have a pin mechanism allowing the from wheel to be fixed or swivel.

Swivel Front Wheel/Wheels
If you are only planning on using your stroller for power walking, and in and around shopping centres, then this might be a better choice. The front wheel or wheels are usually smaller than the fixed models above and some do not have pneumatic tyres. They might not track quite as straight or go over bumps as well, but they are certainly much more maneuverable. Plus, they usually have several extra features to choose from, such as adjustable handlebars, and a narrow profile.

There are a wide variety of strollers for twins to choose from, so hopefully the information above and contained on the rest of this website will help you to decide on what is best for your particular situation!
